Hi there, this is Ms. Ding and thank you for taking the time to read my profile ;) . I'm 24 this year and currently teaching secondary Mandarin up to six forms and French up to year 9 in a school in London as part of my PGCE placement with UCL. The three subjects I offer are mandarin Chinese, maths, and economics. I've got an undergraduate degree in Business and English and a master's in the field of Applied Linguistics. That's because I love researching on languages and seeing the socioeconomic changes from a linguistic perspective. I would think of myself as an approachable and interesting teacher, I believe that the sense of accomplishment when you make a little success in learning is one of the best feelings in the world -- also for your teachers! My mentor in school described my as engaging, intelligent and analytical, which they believe is a very useful set of qualities required in teaching. I love working with my students individually because we build deeper connections and I could see more sparks close-up of the amazing person they are. Before my master's I was educated in China, through the hyper-competitive Gaokao system. As hard as it is, I am thankful for that experience because it trained me to know how to effectively fulfill any task that was given by the exam board, which means that I can help you to achieve your goal in the most effective way. Now that I work in the English education system, I feel lucky that I could bring different perspectives to whatever I'm doing, which is something important for educators who want to make a difference in today's ever-changing world. I've got a wide range of hobbies but the gym is my favourite. It means getting to know and taking control of your body, so I love boxing/Olympic lifting/yoga equally and I train regularly and consistently for it. I'm young but I've got many interesting stories, I used to be an interpreter for high-end conferences and meetings and I also co-founded two start-ups that now didn't end up so well but I'm competely happy with it. :) I'm here because I want to help more students in school subjects (especially in mandarin Chinese because I don't think what the school provides is enough for this language); and if you wish to, I'd love to share your experiences about school & life!
