In 2018 and 2019, I worked as a trainee assistant facilitator with Purple Moon Drama, supporting the running of subsided summer drama workshops in Mile End for children and young people receiving free school meals, with the support of the local Tesco we provided free lunch during these workshops. I saw the positive impact these workshops had on our participants, their confidence growing, their eagerness to contribute to conversations and devise their own work, this was an incredibly rewarding experience. I developed my practice further by completing The Old Vic’s Frontline Facilitator three month programme this year which has positively influenced my practice as a workshop facilitator.
My practice is inclusive, joyful while encouraging the artistic growth of the participants. In my preparation I endeavour to create a workshop that can be modified according the needs, ages and goals of the participants, this gives structure, aims and goals to work with while allowing for fluidity and responsiveness in the room. When meeting new participants, I like to ask them what they believe is key to a positive experience and how they would like to be treated by other participants, sharing this in the group creates a common understanding, allows participants to get the most out of the workshop while encouraging them to work as a company. As an actor-writer I have recently performed my own work at The Almeida and Bush Theatre, I have also performed Theatre 503 and Park Theatre. I have been profiled as an Emerging Artist by The Old Vic and I am currently on the Match/Play programme with tiata fahodzi where I have been commissioned to create a piece of theatre with multidisciplinary artist Jasmine Khalia, which we are currently developing. My writing was recently published in ‘Lit: an anthology of dynamic new monologues for under-represented ethnicities’ edited by Rikki Beadle Blair. I am also writing a one woman show.
