TEFL certified, History PhD, MRes in Creative Practices and BA in History of Art
I’m originally from the South-West of Scotland but currently based in Newcastle, in the North-East of England. I am TEFL-certified and have nearly three years teaching experience, both in person and online. I have taught students from a range of ages and a variety of backgrounds and learning objectives. It’s important to me that you receive an education both informative and enjoyable, therefore I like to plan my lessons around your specific needs and motivations. In the past I’ve adapted my teaching methods to focus on an informal approach. This usually means more conversation practice to increase your fluency whilst discussing in detail any topics of interest to you as well as exploring new issues together. The vocabulary here would also include factors like colloquial speak, idioms and different tones of voice as well as understanding regional dialects of English. On the other hand, many students have preferred a more formal style which seeks to correct and adjust their technical accuracy of the English language. This can be very useful when I’ve helped students revise for exams as well as preparing for an interview for a new job or college/university placement. In addition to assisting with school or university course work, formal methods can also boost a student’s professional English such as strengthening vocabulary in a business, medical or legal context. It's hugely rewarding to see and hear students improve as our lessons together develop, so I’m keen to hear more from you during a trial lesson and, hopefully, help you achieve your personal objectives.
